Learn more about the Humber Watershed Alliance

The Humber Watershed Alliance was formed in 1997 to implement Legacy: A Strategy for a Healthy Humber, Toronto and Region Conservation's action plan for a healthy Humber ecosystem.

Humber Watershed Alliance

The Alliance is a volunteer task force comprised of residents and representatives from community groups, schools, municipalities, government agencies and elected officials.

Much as achieved during the first three-year term of the Alliance (1997-2000), including the designation of the Humber River as a Canadian Heritage River, habitat regeneration projects, and much more.

• Designation of the Humber as a Canadian Heritage River;
• Publication of a book to celebrate the Canadian Heritage Rivers designation;
• Development of urban agricultural initiatives on TRCA lands;
• Development of two Report Cards which examine the health of the Humber River watershed;
• Construction of fishways to restore migratory fish populations;
• Construction of pedestrian trails and bridges;
• Habitat restoration including reforestation and wetland creation;
• Community events to celebrate accomplishments and acknowledge partners;
• Heritage appreciation through hikes, monuments and building restoration; and
• Promotional materials such as brochures, posters and e-bulletins.

Membership in the Alliance
Join the Humber Watershed Alliance and make a difference! This is an opportunity to connect with others, learn more about environmental work. and share your knowledge, experience and skills.

 

Learn more about membership:• Participate in a forum for input in environmental, heritage, recreation, education and agricultural initiatives
• Obtain assistance in planning and implementing projects in your community;
• Attendance at natural environment conservation seminars, technical training sessions and other educational programs
• Add valuable experience to your resume

Humber Watershed Alliance members can take the advantage of the following:

• Receive reference letters
• Free admission to TRCA facilities (based on volunteer hours)
• Dinners at each full Humber Watershed Alliance meeting (4 per year);
• Mileage reimbursement for attendance at Humber Watershed Alliance meetings.
