FLOOD OUTLOOK

DATE: JANUARY 10, 2016

TIME: 10:55 AM - REVISED

ISSUED TO: SCHOOL BOARDS, MUNICIPALITIES, LOCAL CONSERVATION AUTHORITIES, LOCAL POLICE, EMERGENCY SERVICES AND MEDIA

Weather Conditions:

Toronto and Region Conservation advises that Environment Canada is forecasting that the current weather system may bring up to 10-15mm of additional precipitation to the Greater Toronto Area, in addition to the 20mm of rain that began overnight. Rain is expected to continue throughout the day, until the evening when the rain will be changing to flurries.

Issues:

Due to the overnight rainfall, streams and rivers are elevated this morning. Depending on how much of the forecast precipitation falls as rain versus snow, this may result in additional rises in water levels. Rapidly rising or fast moving water can create dangerous conditions. There may be possibility for flooding on roadways and in low-lying areas adjacent to streams, including but not limited to Bayview Extension. We are continuing to monitor the situation.

Actions:

Please exercise caution around all bodies of water and stay away from rivers and streams. Please alert any children under your care of these dangers and supervise their activities. Please avoid driving through flooded roadways. This Flood Outlook Watershed Conditions Statement will be in effect through Monday January 11.

For more information please contact the on-call Flood Duty Officer.
